We did it!!!
It is only because of all of you that the first ever Headline Awards was a success. Believe me, I know how difficult it was to judge all of the wonderful works that were entered. I was right in there with you guys. Also, if, during the process, it did ever cross your minds that judging isn’t worth it when we could just let people vote, I will let you in on a little secret. When Draco and I were sorting out the winners and making the awards, we noticed something a bit off about the entry that got the most votes for the Fan Favorite Giles Story. The winner was called Doubt by Draco, and even he couldn’t remember what it was about. We looked it up and it turned out that Doubt is a drabble about Nathan Wallace. It got entered as a Giles story and, because its category included all characters, nobody caught the mistake. Of course, together we decided to disqualify it. It’s fine that people want to support their favorite authors, but this is also the primary problem with voted awards. This is also the reason judged awards are so special to artists and writers. They know that we read and looked at every single entry. They know that we took every work on its own merits. And they know that we had specific reasons for choosing winners. Combine that with the only thing artists love more than awards, feedback, and you can be sure that your chosen winners feel especially honored for all the hard work you guys put into giving their work some love. I know I do.
Oh and speaking of Draco… You guys should go thank him for making us the most beautiful awards to give ever. I mean, wow!
So, thank you all again. We can be proud that we may have brought some new excitement to a small fandom, that we were able to include work that would never fit into any other awards space, and that we are one of only two awards I know of that includes videos and artwork. You should all be very proud of the accomplishment.
You can be sure that I am keep all of you on my list, and you will be hearing from me again near the end of the year. And, next year, with a little luck, we will only grow bigger. A few new categories, some more participants, more nominations. And, I’m hoping, a couple new judges that you guys have roped into tagging along. So, any ideas you have for next year, or problems we ran into that might be avoided, feel free to share them here. Then, maybe, next year will run even smoother. Although, for a first go, we done damn good, peeps!
Goodbye for now, and congratulations to the winners among you. You don’t even know how much I love you all. Thank you with all my heart.
