Almost all of Anthony Heads roles are listed here, pick your top five and comment telling us who you chose and why, if you want to that is.

Good choices! I love seeing some Maxx love, it's a shame we didn't see more of the character. I was going to put Frank but I had to leave some out of the list because I was only allowed to put so many choices and I cut all of the stage characters first (and then moved onto on screen characters). Sorry.

It would've been wonderful. Maxx had so much of Elton, and also so much what Tony brought in, it would've been anything short of epic. Plus Tony singing songs Elton wrote especially for him... OMG! I mean, it was Tony singing "Rocket Man" that caused Joss back then to come up with the idea of a Buffy musical.

Only 5? ARE YOU CRAZY? How can someone choose only 5 characters? omfg... okok... I chose: - Maurice Riley (I love The Invisibles) - Nathan Wallace (my favourite film) - Para-freaking-ceslus (aaaaaah.... Tony with beard... *faint*) - Rupert Giles (of course) - Uther Pendragon (I agree, magic is bad) I wanted to choose: - Gently Benevolent - Herc - James (Manchild) - Mr. Finch - Peter Salter My top ten.

Trying to choose only five was problematic.
Giles would have to be at the top of my list. The character had many facets and Tony did an exemplary job of bringing them all out. It's a toss up between Uther and James for 2nd cause they bother showcased his ability to play such diverse personalities. Watching his performance as Maurice Riley was great. Seeing him kick against the idea of retirement was great fun. Paracelsus, just the look he gives at the end of the last episode did if for me.

Two days ago, I'd have said Rupert Giles would top my list forever and always in all ways. He is a beautiful, complex representation of a man is who deeply good and heroic but also monumentally screwed up by the toxic subculture he grew up in and the things he has done and the limits he has imposed on himself in his struggle to come to terms with it. The early writing of this character is so inconsistent on it's face (sorry Joss but you know it as well as anyone) that it is only Tony's subtle and deeply believable portrayal of his inner conflicts (often by expression and body language alone with no assistance from the script) that allows this character to hang together until the writers decide who he really is. And then when everyone has gotten it straight, he is truly magnificent. But four episodes in to watching Merlin, Uther is giving him a run for his money. Why? When I see a young actor from one of my childhood favorite shows mature from just good enough to carry a standard high school romantic lead into being a very good professional actor, I get a warm, fuzzy little feeling. BUT, seeing someone whom I have always known to be both a good professional actor and a talented dramatic artist, someone whose work I have joyed and respected for decades, mature into something greater than that... I am left with a feeling of awe, joy and reverence. I only wish Merlin could be even better written and contain at least one other great rather than merely good actor for Tony to play off of. Rupert Giles is a very, very well acted character whom I have no trouble suspending my disbelief and caring about as if he were a person. Whatching Tony's Uthur, I believe he is a person even though I know he's not. If he is half as good in the next 61 episodes as he was in the first four, I may have a new favorite.
Third Coffee Commercial Guy, always Coffee Commercial Guy, now and forever.
Fourth Mr. Machin, because he should have been a two dimensional character and he wasn't thanks to Tony. I just love watching him do that. And because he's quite different than most of the characters I seen Tony do, but this makes no difference to the solidity of his portrayal.
Fifth Chiron: I may be alone in this but hear me out. I will admit that Chiron may be to some degree derivative of Giles. He's certainly written that way. And this movie would be way more fun to watch if you did a shot every time he says duty, responsibility or destiny. BUT, it was amazing to watch how he made every scene he was in better and even improved the quality of the performances of actors playing off of him. Together, he and Nathan Fillion really showed the stunning ability of good acting, even in supporting rolls, to help carry a very weak script. This was the first movie my then four-year-old son ever saw in the theater and Tony, Nathan and a few other actors helped make it watchable enough for me that I could enjoy being there for what was clearly (to my son) a very enjoyable entertainment experience instead of feeling that the film was something I merely had to suffer through. Thus it is written 'there are no small parts, only small actors' and Tony's very strong performance in this roll exemplifies one of the many reason who I think of him as a giant.

And now I feel we should redo this completely to account for the Advent of David Whele.
And now I've bumped Chiron in favor of Stephan Caudwell.
